[ CHARACTER INFORMATION ]

Name: Miku Hinasaki
Age: 19
Gender: Female
Fandom: Fatal Frame III
Timeline: Post-Hour XI
History: link

Character Personality: Miku is a friendly girl, a little on the quiet side but overall cheerful. She is supportive and kind and often tries to help others in need, even if it inconveniences her. She understands what it means to lose someone dear, a little too well for her young age. But even though she is a nice girl and greets people easily, she doesn't let herself get close to people. The reason has to do with her past.

Miku is well accustomed with loss. For some time, her older brother Mafuyu was her only family, having lost both parents tragically (and having witnessed her own mother's suicide for herself). Ever since she was young, she's been able to "see things other people can't." Her sixth sense separated her from other people, making her a bit reserved if not shy. That does not make her unfriendly to strangers, but she won't necessarily open up to them. She doesn't feel like other people will understand her, not really. And when it comes to talking about ghost-related things or rumors, she tends to shy away. Miku's social dilemma keeps her from opening up to other people, which in turn, causes her to suffer by herself. Whatever pain or sadness she endures, she keeps to herself, letting it tear away at her insides. She doesn't want people to worry about her, but she also doesn't want to involve them.

The only person she's felt at ease with is Mafuyu, because they shared the same ability to sense supernatural things. They were able to understand each other, when others could not. Miku often admired Mafuyu for his kindness, and she loved him dearly. She relied on him. Eventually he became her only family, and so she depended on him even more. Undoubtedly, Mafuyu is the closest person to her. But when he decided to stay in Himuro Mansion with Kirie (presumably to his death), it deals a hard blow to Miku. Suddenly she was alone with no family left. But Miku's love for her brother is boundless. Even though he chose to stay with Kirie, Miku does not hate him for leaving her. It upsets her, but she can't resent his decision. Instead she turns the blame on herself, displaying a bit of self-destruction on her part. She tries to reassure herself that she'll always remember him, and tucks her past and her pain away into a tightly-kept secret.

When Miku becomes Rei's photography assistant, she doesn't mention her past. She had to move on, she thinks. She knows if she doesn't forget- if she can't leave the past behind her, she can't live her life. She covers her loss with a smile and a friendly attitude, often helping Rei with her photography work and around the house. Miku is helpful person in general, and enjoys doing the housework and keeping things tidy and clean. She is also a little old-fashioned, preferring to hand wash dishes (the dish washer will damage the lacquer, she says) or to hand make crafts. When she can't do chores, she expresses annoyance, such as when she can't hang the laundry because it's been raining for so long. She is also very neat, always keeping her desk well-arranged. Her research notes are neatly organized and she studies hard every night. Speaking of research, Miku usually is the one to look into "finding stuff out" during the game, so something has to be said about her studious attitude in that regard as well. When Rei loses her fiancee, Miku goes even more out of her way to help her friend. She basically takes over all the household chores for Rei, making her food and leaving her notes to take it easy and relax.

Miku would rather forget what happened to her in Himuro Mansion and the horrors she witnessed, but she is deeply afraid of forgetting her brother. She thought his memory would always be fresh in her mind after losing him, which has reassured her all this time. But she is dismayed to find that his memory grows fainter over time and she fears that one day he'll vanish completely. Rei says that Miku is a stronger person than she is- that she's always there to support her and being with her has made her stronger too- but the irony is that Miku is actually very weak inside. Miku is lonely, sad, hurt that her brother is gone and she couldn't do anything about it. She blames herself all too easily. She shuts away her heartache, but in turn, that heartache eats her from the inside out and destroys her. Ultimately it's her own undoing, as when she's tempted to follow her brother's ghost to the "other side," she fights herself back and forth on whether or not to follow him before she finally does.

Miku tried so hard to let go of her past, but she slowly unravels once she is cursed by the Tattooed Priestess. The walls she built up slowly crumble; maybe they weren't that strong to begin with, as they depended on no reminders of the past. Even her brother's photograph was face down on her desk so she wouldn't remember her loss. From her canon point, she realizes that deep down her only desire is to see her brother once again. Though she hesitated at first, she firmly decides to pursue it and chases after his apparition, leaving Rei behind. If she's just going to forget him, then she'd rather be with him.

Character Abilities: Like her mother, Miku was born with a strong sixth sense. While she is able to see ghosts and other supernatural phenomena ("things other people can't see," she often says), she is also able to feel a sense of foreboding about places or receive visions of past events/memories by touching an important object or defeating a ghost. Sometimes she can tell if someone has been where she is currently located just by sensing it. Despite her weak appearance, Miku's psychic ability is particularly strong, which reflects in her ability to use the series' main weapon, the Camera Obscura. She is one of the strongest characters in the game, being able to charge her spiritual power twice for double damage. However, it's noted that while she's had the ability all her life, she actually lost it between the first and third game. It reawakens sometime during the third game for unexplained reasons. Unrelated to her mental strength, Miku is also very creative. She likes to make art crafts by hand to decorate the house, such as lampshades or cloth for covering a mirror. She is good at cooking and doing chores around the household. In fact, she seems to enjoy it. She can also play the koto.

Character Weaknesses: While Rei comments that Miku is generally cheerful, the truth is that it's all a front to mask her pain. Miku's greatest weakness is her reluctance to open up to others. She tends to bottle up her pain inside of her, keeping it to herself. She doesn't seek help, but tries hard to help others. Emotionally, she distances other people. Since she was a child, she's been used to keeping to herself because of her rare ability. Her brother was the only one she opened up to, because he shared the same power and understood her pain.

Her desire to be with Mafuyu is her own undoing. If she would eventually forget her brother, then she feels she'd rather not live. Having depended on him for so long, she wouldn't be able to stand forgetting him completely. At her lowest point, she feels she's being punished for surviving the Rope Curse and "leaving her brother behind," despite the fact he stayed voluntarily. Miku blames herself all too easily, even if it wasn't actually her fault.

Physically, Miku isn't very strong. As one can tell by her small physique, she doesn't take hits too well. This is balanced by her stronger mental capabilities, though it does put her at a disadvantage. She also has a bad tendency to pick up things she shouldn't, leading to some unhappy ghosts who Didn't Want You To Do That.

[ WEAPON ONLY SECTION ]

Why your character should be a Weapon: Miku has a strong psychic ability, but it brings her too much pain in her life. She is unwilling to remember the Camera Obscura and she's reluctant to fight. She'd rather tuck that horrible piece of her past away. However, Miku is also an incredibly supportive person. As Rei said, Miku gave her strength. Miku was always there to help her when she was sad. She always encouraged Rei to keep going after her fiancee's death. While Miku isn't a fighter (physically speaking at least), she is willing to support others which is why she's better as a Weapon than a Meister. She doesn't want to use her power because of what it reminds her of, but she's willing to help others fight on.

What is your character's Weapon form?: Miku's Weapon is a pair of red glasses. These glasses can shape themselves to the Meister's face, allowing for a perfect fit. The design on Miku's hairclip decorates both sides of the frame. While the shape can change to fit the face, the frame color will always be red and the hairclip design will always be there. The reason why her Weapon is a pair of glasses is because it alludes to her sixth sense ability. She is able to perceive supernatural phenomena through her own eyes. She also uses a camera to fight in Fatal Frame. Her ability to fight is thus dependent on her eyes and what she sees in the camera's viewfinder. I translated this into special glasses. Her glasses have four abilities. All of the abilities listed occur through the glasses, so they can only happen when worn. The opponent can only be targeted/attacked if seen through the lenses. If they're taken off, it won't work. Additionally Meisters won't be able to "sense" enemies if it's off.

Sense
Taking a leaf from Miku's sixth sense ability, the Meister will experience a heightened sense of awareness. The Meister will be able to sense other people/enemies in the immediate area. "Sensing" is just limited to "feeling that they're there", nothing super fancy beyond that. If danger lurks ahead, the Meister will feel a sense of foreboding to warn them.

See
Starting at 40% Resonance, Meisters will also be able to experience "visions"- a.k.a. flashbacks of events that occurred in the area they're in, such as a significant moment or a precious memory from the past. These visions are triggered by touching objects (if the owner held significant value in them, such your favorite teddy bear) or by touching a person, usually if the person is in a state of emotional unrest or emotionally drained. A location can trigger visions if it's a place of significance (like, a tragedy occurred there, a significant battle, etc.). Generally, they will always show flashbacks. Lower resonance is less likely to trigger these visions and less likely to make any sense. It'll just be a random arrangement of scenes with no sense of narrative. The higher Resonance you go, the clearer and more coherent it gets.

90~100% Resonance leads to full-fledged, totally awesome flashbacks (example). At this level of Resonance, sometimes the visions may warn the Meister of their fate or of somebody else's fate...

Obviously anything the Meister sees will be cleared via permission.

Slow
Based off Miku's special camera ability. Like it says, it can slow down the movement of the current enemy, but only for a limited amount of time. When it runs out, Miku must recharge before she can do it again. The higher the resonance, the longer it lasts and the faster it recharges. Higher resonance also allows more enemies to be targeted. Compared to the original speed of the opponent, "Slow" cuts down movement speed by half. But it'll initially last only 5 seconds and take a minute or more to recharge depending on resonance. The max amount of time it can last (and with perfect resonance) is 30 seconds. Recharge would take 15 seconds. Basically:

babby level - 5 secs slowed down, 60+ secs to recharge
100% res - 30 secs slowed down, 15 secs to recharge

Charge
The majority of Miku's offensive power comes from this function. By default, the special lenses of Miku's glasses unleashes a psychic attack (not unlike Psychic attacks in Pokémon). Additionally the Meister can choose to charge this attack for an extra boost in damage! If he or she decides to charge, the Meister will see a charge circle appear in front of them. That circle will slowly charge up for the Meister's next attack, increasing their attack power. An attack can be given at any time during the charging period, but obviously it's strongest when at full charge! The higher the Resonance, the more damage is unleashed. Higher Resonance also dictates the speed of the charge circle.

100% Resonance allows the Meister to Double Charge. This means they can charge the circle twice for one attack, doubling their power.

The Charge Circle is designed and based off the Capture Circle for Miku's Camera Obscura
