Ah, the romance of watching grass grow! Some folks will appreciate it, but I bet that most will not.

I think this is a topic where something like the historical farms over in Britain probably have an edge insofar as they can show agriculture in action.

The manager over at Forest Glen loves this area of research. She's promised to cadge some stalks of grain from farmer friends so that we can actually thresh it. Now, if we could only get a quern stone... :)

I've seen references to limestone, but I assume that there were more (y'know, whatever was available). For a while, we considered making a pair out of cement, painted to look natural, but reaction was mixed, and we were already a little hesitent (a howe-to popped up on the web, which brought it to mind). I personally thought that my the Turn of Millennium, cement was almost unused after Classaical times and wasn't sure when it again became popular.
