I hate spam as much as anybody, probably more than most because of the quantity I get. And most spam is not just business, but outright fraud: phishing, banking scams, quack medicine, etc.

But whoever sends me, say, the dozens of Korean-language spam I get every day, has no idea who I am. Presumably copies go out to millions of people utterly unknown to the sender. It's more analogous to someone polluting the river I drink from, or spreading litter on the street I walk on, than to someone spying on my bedroom or listening in on my telephone calls.

In other words, I don't see spamming as a privacy issue.
