Just a thought on raising responsible teens...

I know this statement will probably have the Super Nanny pounding down my door within the hour, but nevertheless it must be said…I simply refuse to coddle my kids.

Now before I receive 57 posts about how I’m such a bad parent, let me explain.

First of all let me remind everyone that my kids are 14 and 15-years-old, far from toddler stage. And ( Read more... )

I'm here actually from Metaquotes, from your quiz!
Love your attitude! My hubby & I are now the proud parents of a 19YO stepdaughter who is moving in with us because (long story short)her mom & stepdad were so strict with her that when she turned 18, she just said "no more rules". She also, unfortunately, went off the deep end as far as school, etc. So, we are starting to teach her self-discipline and logic, and bolstering her self-esteem (which has been damaged by a boyfriend who is way too controlling/demanding).

We told her mom for years that she was being too overprotective, but she wouldn't/couldn't talk to her (course, daughter is EXACTLY the same mindset as dad, so he knows how her brain works-helps tremendously!).

May I friend you? I love your posts!

I'd consider your "friending" an honor and want to wish you all the luck in the world with your new step-daughter...though we both know luck has little to do with it. Best wishes to you.

I am the mom of 3 teenagers (all boys) 13,16 and 17. I am with you on many things.
Every action has an equal but opposite reaction.
Yep, I quit washing the boys clothes this year 9over the summer) they have it as a chore, I also quit nagging them about doing it- now this seems minor, then I saw my 16 year old wandering around the house in the morning looking for some boxers to wear to school. I asked did you wash any, he said "I think so" I said well if you washed them you would have them, he responed "well maybe I forgot to" I said yeah well life is tough huh! He did not find it as amusing as my hubby and I did and he ended up digging some out of his room to wear (they may or may not have been clean) I bet he does clothes tonight...LOL
