I'm going to start posting here more, because I miss writing, but mostly because I miss all of you. So there.
I've been aging for a while now, but I think I may be growing up. This is an unsettling thing for me on some level, because it means that I risk becoming a "grown up". Here are my symptoms:

I've also grown disillusioned with music criticism due to reading too many pretentious, sexist and/or racist reviews from even the publications I love the most.

And I agree 100% about music criticism...the Pitchfork school of carefully condescending trust fund dickery has sucked all of the air out of it. And as far as the sexism/racism goes, I have learned from music zines over the years that rock music performed by women is "tampon rock" unless it's "riot grrl lite", and mainstream hip hop is good because it's ironic to be white and listen to it, but the music itself is beside the point...that or the pained, overwrought accomidation of hip hop by old mainline rock critics, which just seems like tokenism.. (this has gotten better over the years, but it's still amusing listening to the music critic for Fresh Air on NPR try to come to grips with Lil' Wayne.)
