CHARACTER INFORMATIONName: Natalia Luzu Kimlasca-Lanvaldear ( Natalia L.K. Lanvaldear )
Age: 19
Gender: Female
Fandom: Tales of the Abyss ( game )
Timeline: After Luke and Asch disappear into the core.
History: Aselia, the Tales wiki.

Character Personality: Natalia has a difficult personality to describe because of the contradicting nature some traits have to others. In the beginning, she is portrayed as "that annoying chick" ( as Luke so kindly puts it ) who nags and nitpicks, and when the party finally meets her she doesn't appear to be far off from the description. Although she speaks in a polished and refined manner, the way she initially treats them is familiar to how she speaks to a servant; demanding and haughty. She doesn't do this on purpose, Natalia has lived a sheltered life surrounded by people that do not talk back to her or refuse her wishes and it's become natural for her to act as someone who gets what they want. Her years of history with both Luke and Guy give her an extra freedom with the two, as throughout the journey she often scolds Luke for not acting as a noble should, and still regards Guy as her servant-to-be until later events.

Her future marriage to the Duke's son, Luke ( the original, later becoming Asch the Bloody ), is a large part of what fuels her. Like Asch, Natalia grew up believing that, as their princess, it's her duty to live up to what Kimlasca needs. Asch's promise and proposal to change the world into one without war together with her is something she often refers back to, regardless of whether the later replicated Luke can remember making it or not. In fact, when blackmailing Luke into letting her join the group to Akzeriuth, she makes him promise to hurry and remember his words in exchange for not telling the others his plans with Van. It might seem pointless to anyone else, but hearing those words is very important to her even when she already knows what they are and what they mean.

Even though she explains that she would not want to be referred to as the Princess on their trip, Natalia doesn't shed the royal disposition until she is scolded by Jade. Realizing her behavior is unfitting and detrimental, she apologizes and is quickly able to act with modesty in their presence. She doesn't necessarily change, as she retains her quick temper toward any badmouthing in regards to Kimlasca, but she does soften and as time passes she takes in what others say and she learns from it. Her arrogance and bossiness becomes overshadowed by her elegance and compassion, the latter of which she's always had -- particularly toward the people of Kimlasca-Lanvaldear.

At first, Natalia was under the impression that she acted in kindness toward Kimlascans because that is what one of noble blood did. She lectures Luke for not considering his birthright in his actions, though on that same note becomes irritated with him when he warns her about "catching something" from the injured in Akzeriuth. Her ideology that it is her duty to love her citizens had her actively involved in their welfare from a young age, including opening a hospital, giving profits to the needy, and standing in meetings concerning Kimlasca's affairs to add to all final decisions. The truth of her birth shakes her beliefs and all of her past actions are put into question. After being ordered to death, Natalia can't believe that the people of Baticul risk their lives to help her escape and she pleads with them not to put themselves in danger for an impostor. She starts to believe that she is not worthy of their love or protection, but as Guy says, "the people of Baticul don't love the princess. They love Natalia."

Once they reach safety, Natalia begins to fear her fathers rejection. When it comes time to speak to Baticul's King concerning the lowering of the Outer Lands, Natalia confesses that she is afraid to return and face him. She apologizes and asks for a night to think it over in which she speaks to Asch again. He repeats his words of promise to her, claiming that he didn't say them to her because she was the princess. Natalia is able to find comfort in this and agrees to join the others in their return to Baticul the next day. Upon their arrival, Jade makes a point that "no one is born a princess. Only through diligence does one achieve the grace and dignity required of that title." Although she admits to being uncertain of whether she possesses these or not, Natalia realizes and expresses her love for Kimlasca comes from the nobility of her spirit and not from her bloodline. Natalia also becomes adamant in confronting her true father when he is revealed to be The God-General, Largo the Black Lion. It takes hearing it directly from the God-General for her to come to terms with her birth. He further pushes her away by saying that his daughter, Meryl Oakland, died with his wife and Natalia is nobody else but the princess to him. After seeking advice from Tear whom is in a similar situation, Natalia is finally able to put her unease to rest and she herself delivers the finishing blow that defeats Largo. While the others debate the meaning of his final words, she tells them that she will keep what she believes in her heart.

Natalia is perceived as a strong and mature young woman, and these events help her to become this person. With this in mind, though, we are also reminded that Natalia has a somewhat naive state of mind. In all of her growing, it’s her moments of gullibility that point out how little of the world she’s actually experienced. On one occasion, Anise makes a comment about Dist being like a lizard and that his chair is like a tail that will grow back if cut off. Any normal civilian might recognize this as some kind of joke, but Natalia seems to take this a bit more literally. Her friends also comment that she can be “out of it”, as she often misses the point of a conversation entirely. This includes her inability to read the atmosphere at times, which is especially apparent when she fails to notice the budding romance between General Frings and Cecille. This instance is surprising because Natalia has the tendency to show a great interest in things of a romantic nature, and oddly of a supernatural sense as well. She is excitedly drawn to Jade's ghost stories and the tale of Peony and his first love, though this may also be due to her sheltered life and both genres are good for fantasizing.

Her emotions are worn very openly and Natalia prides herself on speaking honestly and with purpose, however she also considers the effect words can have on a person. She acts accordingly and respectively, and eventually also comes to realize the responsibility she’s put on both Luke and Asch by putting so much importance in that one promise. After Asch’s death, she is able to begin viewing and living her life by her own ideas and not always relying on what others have told her. As Luke is about to enter the core, she admits that she had not been able to differentiate between them, and had continuously tied the both of them down to a single promise that no longer held for either of them. She goes on to say that she wants Luke to live his own life and that, as his friend, she will be there to support him.

Character Abilities: In her world, Natalia is called a Seventh Fonist, giving her the ability to heal and cast supporting spells on her allies. Unlike others with this ability, Natalia can also cure multiple ailments which gives her a unique edge in particular battles. She is made purely to fight in the back lines, all of her fonic artes consisting only of stat-raising magic and single-target recoveries. From this distance, Natalia can also put to use her teachings in the ways of the Lanvaldear Archery technique along with quite a list of the artes she's learned over time traveling with Luke and the others. Magic aside, Natalia is skilled in agility and dexterity. As a well-taught archer, Natalia is very proud of her abilities and has been able to fire up to three arrows at one time (and hitting the desired target) while keeping mostly aware of her surroundings and remaining behind the close to hand fighters.

Outside of battle Natalia has learned a lot in the ways of ruling and commanding a country. Politics and governing have been part of her life since she was a child, as she would one day ascend the throne, and Natalia uses this knowledge to her advantage in order to take control of even the most hectic of situations. Her greatest skill, it seems, is to calm and recompose the general public while taking up the necessary responsibilities to meet the needs of the people. She can take the lead with little to no fussing and turn fears to faith, and this is a great ability for a future ruler to possess.

Character Weaknesses: Natalia tries so hard to be strong that that in itself can be considered a weakness. She puts all of her efforts and time into pleasing the people of her country and others around her that it could very easily wear her down, and still she would refuse to rest until she's done everything that she can. Her own welfare is less than important when another is even in the slightest of trouble and if someone points out her exhaustion or otherwise, she will often comment that it is nothing in comparison and insist that they keep going.

When it comes to the battlefield, while Natalia is skilled in archery and fonic artes, any hand to hand combat would take her out in mere seconds. She has no training in anything other than a bow, thus putting her at a severe disadvantage if she doesn't have a swordsman or otherwise to rely on. Lacking in muscles and size, she becomes an easy target to a more skilled foe.

On a less serious note, Natalia is also painfully gullible. She readily believes and trusts whatever story is told to her no matter how far-fetched it might sound. It's so bad that when Anise jokes about Van's beard giving him power, Natalia believes her and worse yet is amazed at the "abilities" that even his eyebrows have:
ANISE: "His eyebrows...um...tell him where his enemies are. And watch out for the hypno-rays they shoot out!"
NATALIA: "Oh, such power! How fitting, for the Commandant of the Oracle Knights."

I wish I could say that were the last of it, but alas Natalia has another. As a Princess, Natalia has never had to take care of many feminine duties - but to be more specific, cooking. Her culinary skills are far below that of an amateur, even Luke can make a dinner better than hers and he doesn't have many fans in that department either.

SOUL CAMPAIGN SECTIONWhat are the abilities that your character will retain in Soul Campaign?
• The Lanvaldear Archery Style ( including agility and other similar physical strengths ) : this isn't an ability that requires any change, as it isn't super-human and has been learned through years of training.
• Her noble upbringings and natural crowd control abilities.

What are the weaknesses that your character will lose or gain in Soul Campaign?
• Losing her fonic artes will temporarily increase her worrying over others as well as putting herself last.
• Learning other types of self-defense would give her less of a disadvantage in a war situation.
• Her inability to do the menial jobs in life (cooking...) will hopefully improve.

Keeping the game’s premise in mind, please give us a brief explanation of your plans for your character in Soul Campaign.
As it stands, Auldrant is working toward a peaceful future and suddenly finding herself in the midst of another war will be a way to view her recent decision to change in order to act more independently. She still believes in working toward a world without war so she may be unable to avoid getting involved.

If your character has difficulty communicating (or can't communicate at all, e.g., most animal characters), we require you to please elaborate on how you intend to treat this in the game. N/A

MEISTER ONLY SECTIONWhy your character should be a Meister: Natalia is well suited to take the role of a wielder. She's already accustomed to a war setting and with her skills to back her up she would be a greater asset as a Meister on the field than a Weapon. Her leadership qualities put her in a better position to lead an assault or stand ground for defense, and her tendency to rely on another would be perfect for her dependency on having a Weapon's added abilities to aid her already practiced technique.

Meister Ability: Soul Bandaid - The Meister is capable of healing themselves and other Meisters. This ability, like a real bandaid, can only do so much before serious wounds are overwhelmed. Wounds that are 'bandaged' by this ability stay closed and begin to heal at a rapid rate. The Meister can only maintain it on one person to start and up to three as their ability improves.

SOUL INFORMATIONSoul Description: Passionate, Devoted, Generous, Honest, Trustworthy, Naive
