Ooo, thanks for this. My attempts at lightening stuff that dark rarely turn out that well. I'm interested to try out the 'lowering the contrast first' technique. \o/

It really depends on the cap, of course, but that method worked for me for a lot of SPN caps this season. Curves work wonders for brightening caps too, especially when you play with all channels.
