ooo, I love the eggnog idea. I also love that brand of flour and luckily it is not as outrageously expensive at trader joes at most other stores I've seen it. Safeway wants five bux for a bag!
5.00 bag????? Insane. last year My dad sent me the King Arthur's Baker's catalog, they sell about a dozen bread mixes and cake and brownie mixes too, I had no idea, also $$$$ bake wear and polish ceramic serving ware that made me drool.
Our local grocery has it for 1.98 bag. I did a happy dance when we moved here, since leaving Vermont (home of King Arthur) it had been hard to come by, but they carry it here long with all the Cabot cheeses and butters, Asheville, Vermont wannabe!
On the shortening- I have made it with 2 sticks of butter- delicious but crumbly and sticky even when cold earth balance- too oily spread too much
I find that hydrogenated goodness and buttery flavor yield consistent tasty cookies that hold up well for decorating and cook evenly. Yeah, just this once, i swear its the only time I pop that crisco tub open, (well this and father's day beignets)
