Rar, dammit

When I’m Emperor of the Universe, the phrase “Spring has sprung” will be punishable by death. It’s not clever, it’s not cute, just annoying. Stop it.

Also, stores with signs reading “Pardon our dust.” Yeah, you’re remodeling, we can see that. Just get on with it, the disruption will go away in due time, no cutesy signs required.

I can see the logic in giving the cons priority over Maker Faire -- after all, 95% of the Maker community is well aware of your company and its products.  The cons and the costuming community, on the other claw, are a new and untapped market awaiting exploitation: people who would WANT your stuff but might not know it EXISTS yet.

I don't know. I can't honestly feel upset over the former, as cliché as it's become - if it truly invokes a spirit of renewal, an alleviation of the tedium of "winter", it's a thoroughly welcome event, and I'll give it Yuletide freedom.

But, I do feel irked by the.. usurpment? Usurpation? Of the classic "Keep Calm", in any event. It once stood for a sense of pragmatism, realism - now? Nothing more than a highly over-used tagline to promote whatever claptrap the genius of the day wishes.

(Come now, what modern politician would ever exhort their subjects to stay calm, when there's so very much more to be gained in ensuring their fearfulness?)

For me, that line is forever linked with a certain "bloody" awesome Artslave banner ad. It just needs an exclamation point... or three!
