Actually, I have a theory that unmatched and missing socks are devoured by these rags during the Rag Rutting season, and those rags are quietly breeding in a corner of your house.

The ones you always miss have come out to spawn, and may be about to die. You know, like Salmon. Only more toxic, and 45% more cooties.
