If I see one more person using contact cement wrong, I'm gonna kick a kitten. This also includes Barge cement, common office-supply rubber cement, etc.

If you glop it on, join the parts together and wait for it to dry, you’re doing it wrong…you’re compromising the strength of the bond and wasting a lot of time as solvent tries to evaporate from ( Read more... )

I've been using it properly ever since I've been repairing my own shoes. Barge Cement >> Cheap-ass new footwear.

But waiting for it to dry is the best part. It's when all the nice vapors escape and you can sit there and be very mellow before wondering why you haven't installed that extractor fan when the headache kicks in.

It gets worse. I know several instances where people did not mix the two parts just put one part or both randomly on and of course it did not cure nor stick.

Like you said, if un-familiar, read the instructions.
