Chonny S. painted, sculpted, and drew.

I went to high school with Chonny S.  His real name was Johnny, but he had a Norwegian grandmother who called him Chonny, and it stuck.  Chonny S. was different.  He was an amazing artist.  His notebooks, bookbag, everything he owned in fact were covered in his wild, other-wordly creations.  Chonny S. was also ( Read more... )

Isn't this always how it goes? I've never heard of the Icarus Project, and now two Idol entries both mention it.

It sounds like that strong community was just what Chonny needed. If we boil it right down, meds are important because they can keep people safe and functioning. If there was something else that could keep Chonny safe and functioning, then, well, I'm glad he found it. I hope he continues to do well.

I am so glad you wrote about the Icarus Project. Its mission to provide alternatives to the traditional medical model gives people with mental illness a choice. Thank you.

Wow I never heard of that project, sounds very intriguing. Hopefully your friend is still well and out there with the support he deserves.

I'm happy that your story didn't take the turn I thought it would (an untimely death). Instead it was very hopeful and The Icarus Project seems like such a great organization and they fostered Chonny's creativity quite well.
