Considering quasi-vegetarianism.

I'm trying to slowly eliminate most meat from my diet (except fish). I was walking around the grocery store (read: super walmart), losing hope about ever finding anything healthy that didn't sound gross, or something good that didn't contain some meat products in it. Even so, the thousands of cows you save in your lifetime just by cutting back will thank you. ^_^ (And people like my dad will eclipse both our habits with the amount of cow he's capable of eating in one month. ><)

They should throw me an appreciation dinner, with a presentation of a plaque and everything!

(The thought of eating meat in units of cow is... terrifying. Gah!)

The average human eats around 1,500 animals in their lifetime, according to PETA. But they might be bulking up those stats and giving people 90 year lifespans and 3 sirloins a day, counting each egg as an animal, blah blah blah. Either way, looking at slaughterhouse pictures and reading about the practices involved in mass producing meat screwed up the way I look at the grocery store. Downright scary.

((laughs) Yeah, but the best unit of measurement when dealing with Texans.)

I've been relying on tofu a lot lately, because my stomach is having an even harder time with meat proteins than it used to (must be a thing that happens as I progressively get older :-P) As for fish, though, bless it, because it's never given me any trouble and I hope it never does. I've become half vegetarian out of sheer necessity more than out of any sincere desire to do so.

Do you have any tofu recommendations? To me it's this nebulous white substance that doesn't look at all like food, but I want to try it. The jello jiggleresque tofu at Grand Buffet with vanilla flavoring was pretty good.
