70. [DREAM/DREAM/DREAM/DREAM]

[So while the rest of Johto alternately panics, cries, or rushes around trying to capture as many of the soulstealing insects as possible, there are dozens of souls floating around in that dream limbo, drifting in and out of each other's slumbering thoughts and visions. Whether it's nightmarish flashbacks or just those dreams where you're at school ( Read more... )

[Yuma stumbles forward. She's not sure where she is now, but... This place definitely doesn't feel right, and not in the way a witch barrier doesn't feel right. This place feels different.

... She looks at the door and, well, she hears noises from inside. Maybe there's someone inside, someone else who needs help?

Seems to be the logical conclusion. So she'll hesitantly enter.]

[Yuma will find herself in a house.]

[... A somewhat big house. Big and old... the wood creaks with age if she steps across the floor. It's starkly decorated... except for a few framed portraits and the occasional vase full of white flowers, there's just not much there to offset the austerity of the place. There's a dusty carpet underfoot in the opening hallway, but apart from that, the floors (even the impressive stairwell breaking off from the entry hall and going upstairs) are bare wood... splintery, too.]

[The house looks dark, but there are lights on at the end of the hallway... and angry voices...]

[Eridan hesitantly takes a step forward towards the door. He didn't want to walk through it, he was pretty sure that there was something dangerous behind it. But all the same, he pushes the door open a little more, just barely peeking his head in.]

[Well, the good news is, there's nothing dangerous waiting there to leap out at him as soon as he peers inside... the bad news is, there's nowhere near enough light in there to see by, just by peeking in... he'll be able to hear things, though...]

[This is by far the most creepy thing Miguel's seen. Not the worst but certainly the creepiest, and every fibre in his body is screaming at him don't go through that door. But he's all alone, and there's no way back, so what else can he do but open the door just a slight bit more and have a look at what's on the other side]

[The first thing that leaps out at him when he cracks the door open is, surprisingly, not a monster or a devil... but light.]

[Bright, golden light. It's beautiful, in a way-- certainly not the ominous, eerie light that one might have expected from a door like that, if one expected light at all.]

[A closer look through the crack will reveal that the door is set at the end of a long, pew-lined aisle ... it's a church.]

[And there, down at the far, far end is a pair of absolutely massive stained-glass windows, towering far above all else...]

[As the light pools out, the first thing that crosses Miguel's mind is Am I dead?. He's heard stories about how death comes as a shining light leading to heaven, or as an abyss of claws, dragging you down to hell.]

[He walks inside, mesmerized by the light and most significantly the enormous window, and not until he's halfway down the aisle does he realize that, yes... it's a church.]

[He flinches, staggers, wants to turn and run but just frantically look around. Is there anyone here? Can he get back to the door or just away unseen?]

[Nope-- sorry, Miguel... the door's shut behind him and even if he goes back and tries it, it won't budge... The Order has never let people go easily, in Heather's experience...]

[Speaking of...]

[There IS someone there, standing up there by where the pulpit should be, at the very foot of the magnificent windows. A boy? ... No, just a lanky, short-haired girl in a mini-skirt and puffy vest. Her back is to him, although she turns her head just slightly at the sound of his footsteps-- she knows he's there.]

[In front of her is a crude shrine-- almost bizarrely rough and homespun in comparison to the dazzling chapel all around it... a small wooden table, once painted sloppily white but now gray with age, housing bubbly, mostly-spent candles, a few beakers and vials of liquid, and a single bowl... and hanging above the table-- but below the stained glass-- is a scorched canvas in a frame.]
