I got mine online, since at the time it was the only place nearby that I could get them (though I did try on a pair at the one local place that had them in order to get my size) but now that you can get them in tons of place I do recommend at least going to a brick store first in order to make sure you get the right size for your feet.
As for the price, honestly I think its worth it. I mean it seems like a lot, but mine have held up really nicely over time and while I don't do a lot of hard stuff in them I do walk around in them for the most part, been hiking, indoor rock climbing, working out in the gym, and even walked across the hot pavement in the summer in AZ ;D
I love them! Most people I have talked to who have them love them as well, honestly once your feet get used to them you will wonder how you lived so long without them. I think that while the price seems high at first they really do last a good long time, and honestly I see myself buying from them for years to come once my current pairs wear out (I have two right now, a black one that I wore to work while I could, and a bright blue one they don't sell anymore :D)
The downsides are that they don't offer any protection again the cold so David bought some of the toe socks they sell for his feet (me I just wear my other min. shoes with socks but before that I just dealt with it, as I funny enough don't like toe socks LOL) nor are they water proof (I guess they are working on that but for now no go) so if you live where it is really rainy it can get to be a bit of a pain.
oo you would be surprised at how well these hold up to rocky prickly trails. I would bring them all over AZ from the desert, to the mesquite forests and didn't have any problems (now don't get me wrong, I would sometimes feel a thorn trying to make its way in, but you just have to be aware and stop yourself before your foot is impaled heh) my biggest problem now is all the rain puddles everywhere!
I wish I could go barefoot though, but along that line I have pretty sensative feet
My version of minimalist shoes are my lovely thin-soled moccasins- while they don't have individual toes, they're so thin that you still feel everything in them, like rocks and squishy mud and all, without actually scraping your feet up. I go through them fairly quickly because I wear them EVERYWHERE. This winter, I seriously attempted to wear them until I started getting snow in them because that's bad for the leather and really not great for your feet either (especially if you don't have great circulation to begin with!). I've noticed a lot of people wearing them around, but they're always wearing the fashion ones or they've got socks on... which kind of ruins the point. It actually also really surprises me how warm they are, for being nothing but a lot of leather held together with sinew thread
( ... )
oh yeah those are awesome as well! See I feel the same way about my shoes, when I have to wear them they actually drive me batty! I will say this for my FF I have trekked a lot through various portions of the AZ desert and they have worked realyl awesome for me even in prickly places with mesquite thorns and the like, but at least hte soles on mine are "thicker" so that might be the differenece?
Yeah I noticed a lot of people wearing Mocs lately as well, but for pretty much the same reason, I wonder if they weared about minimalist footwear they might just think about their other shoe choices?

Some of the Washington forests really are magical. I used to swear I'd seen unicorns in some of the deep woods there...... :)
