I was a child that tasted everything. While this was great with food - I never turned down vegetables or even liver - I used to eat dirt, too. (I never licked worms, though. They were slimy.) I ate chalk, but never glue (paste), chewed on thin tree branches (willow), and stole rhubarb and sweet pea pods from all the neighbors. Gods, you'd think I had a tapeworm, lol!
Anyway, I ate book pages too. Just a nibble. And I remember the taste. But my favorite thing was (and still is) the smell. I love to smell old books. Yes, I realize that it's the smell of decay, but it's comfortable. And I always inhale deeply when I go into a used book store. Barnes & Noble just ain't the same.
Used bookstores are the best. I read somewhere that one of the byproducts of paper decay is vanillan, the same thing that gives vanilla beans their scent, which is why old books smell so lovely...
I was never much of an eat-odd-things kid, though I would eat sugar straight from the bowl rather than candy.

I need new bookshelves. Ones that will hold ALL my books so I can look at them and find them and have them all in boxes all higgeldy piggeldy.

Plus, if I get a new set of shelves, I can devote it entirely to my children's and YA collection.

Also I had a friend who couldn't keep a watch on her wrist because she'd snack on the strap
