hmmmm... never thought of the film that way before- "instead, they're characterized enough that you can empathize with them, but their lives are vague enough that they become archetypes..."

I didn't see the characters as symbolic, only as piecey and incomplete. But I see your point and it makes the movie much better. I still think they should have used Mr. Bean more often though.

Ohp! I'm glad you like the movie better.

I agree, Rowan Atkinson's character was cool in that movie--I kind of wonder if he was supposed to be god, or maybe a really bizarre kind of cupid. In the sense that he kept doing things to nudge people in the right lovin' direction or whatever.

I really liked the movie myself, and am enjoying the soundtrack which my parents gave me for christmas. I can't help crack up every time that 'Christmas is all around us' song comes on, and then picture the old pop star character. I also found the whole nod to politics with the portrayel of the President and Prime Minister to be funny.

w00t! I'm glad the 'Christmas is All Around Us' song is on the soundtrack, I'll have to buy it now. That burnt out rock star guy ruled.

I liked the President and Prime Minister thing alot too, and although I don't know much about the political stuff, Hugh Grant's speech in the press room was god damn awesome.
