However Long the Knight

Why does no one pay attention to the signs that say "IN" and "OUT" in very large letters?

My nonscientific surveys have found that people more often do it the wrong way than the right way. To other people's credit, though, it's kind of stupid that they made the exit come before the entrance. Because of the way the street is, the only way to enter the parking lot is by driving east, and people are naturally going to want to take the first possible turn into the parking lot. They should just switch the signs.

To me that system has always made more sense. If you don't find a parking space in your first pass (or, say, you pass one up thinking, incorrectly, that there will be a closer one on the other side), you get a second chance to easily exit, reenter, and park. It goes against our natural instinct to take the first possible "entrance" (or what appears to be an entrance), but in the end it makes parking a bit easier.
