I have only been to Florence and Venice in Italy, so I can't advise comparatively, but both are amazing -- particularly Venice, which is like no place else in the world (that I have been!). I would say don't miss Venice!
We just got back from a trip to Normandy, which was amazing -- stayed at a wonderful B&B with the friendliest hostess ever, saw the D Day sites (with an AMAZING tour guide), and popped over to Mont St Michel (another "don't miss" in my book, if you can swing it without too much inconvenience) for an afternoon/overnight stay.
Happy to pass on our tips for the B&B and tour guide if you are interested (also stayed at a great place at Mont St Michel too).
I am totally over Paris, but I did love it the first time and liked it fine the second (third time was enough). Versailles is definitely a must-see -- and give yourself plenty of time to enjoy it because it is HUGE!
Sadly, the trip is now postponed. The thought of spending 500 euros a night (my mom did the research so who knows) when the exchange rate is 1.6 euros to one USD is somewhat nauseating. But, I think we still plan on taking the trip at some time in the near future (hopefully).
I would love to visit Normandy and Mt St Michel is a place I've wanted to see for as long as I can remember. I would be greatly appreciative if you could hook me up with the tour guide info; word of mouth seems to be the best way to find these sorts of things.
So after this trip got axed (see my reply to filmstar), my mom suggested driving to Alaska. I told her that, between my sleepiness and her inability to drive at night, it would take us six months to get there. haha
