So. I'm now getting over my second cold in under a month. I recognize that I should be thanking my Sudafed-shaped stars that it's not the DEEEEEEEADLY SWIIIIIIIIINE FLU (sorry . . . it's hard not to be jaded about this, yes, legitimate medical problem when you work for the media machine), but at the same time, this is extremely embarrassing for ( Read more... )

Planting bulbs can be a hit and miss for anyone...I think. I'm a hit and miss with the bulbs myself. But I also got drawn in by for sale bulbs this year and planted a whack of tulips in the front garden. We shall see what happens with them. I had also bought a peony from Walmart of all places...just the tuber, at the beginning of the year, then I took off to Arizona without planting it and when I got home it had molded/dried up in its poor plastic packaging. But I planted it anyway. I had given up hope on the poor thing when lo and behold...end of september, a leaf popped up!!! At the end of september! Sooooo, we'll see if it comes back next year. I'm kind of on the 'no' wagon on that, but we'll see. As for the amyrilis...the blooms only last so long. A couple of days. That's all mine last and they're grown inside. So don't be bummed, and try them again. You can grow it inside if you want. YOu'll get foliage for most of the year and if you're lucky you'll get a bloom 2x a year. I'd send you a baby of mine...if I could.

Oh, and I've resorted to orchids in my house. For some reason I can keep them alive. Go figure!!

Lil' Sis.

And I think you should run out and buy another citronella next spring. You grow a darn nice citronella!!!

Thanks for the pep talk/reality check. I feel better about the amaryllis now. Maybe I'll try one again, if only for the opportunity to sing "Amaryllis By Morning" around the house.

I hope your tulips provide you with some beautiful bloomage. If they do, you must take some photos!
