There will be more text to come . . . at some point in the year. I've been meaning to make an Olympic post for three weeks (ever since I saw the Sea Bus terminal wallpapered in Coors ads, but maybe it's good that I didn't post right away, because it just would have turned into a boring anti-corporate rant no one wants to hear, but please just allow ( Read more... )

Ooo pretty!

How are you going to see the Colbert Report? Are you coming here or is he going there?

I thought the opening ceremony was kinda boring to be honest. Too many long sappy songs. The best part for me (besides seeing Wanye Gretzky light the cauldrons) was the lightshow on the floor. That was pretty awesome. I loved the part with the whales and when it looked like ice breaking up. Really impressive stuff. Kinda makes me wish I had a floor like that in my house, lol.

I forgot to ask.. what are you most looking foward to watching? I'm excited for Women's Hockey and figure skating.

(Wouldn't be awesome if Women's figure skating hockey was a sport?)

The Report is coming here! Yowsa! It's all due to the Colbert-U.S. Speed Skating connection (he's actually a part of the U.S. Olympic team as the assistant psychologist of the speed skating crew). They're taping the show next Wednesday and Thursday at 9 a.m., which means I can go on Wednesday because I don't have to work until noon! EeeeEEEeeeee! I'm so excited, I think my kidneys are about to implode with delight!

The opening ceremonies reminded me a lot of films from the NFB . . . in other words, slow, meandering, abstract, arty, and very, very Canadian. To be honest, I thought the ceremonies were a little inward facing (the imagery and performances would really resonate with a Canadian, but probably leave everyone else out in the cold, so to speak). I'd agree there was a lack of excitement and panache, and it's a ceremony that people won't remember six months from now, but at the same time I like that it was quieter and subtler ( ... )
