I really do like these last lines, but more importantly, I wanted to kind of go light on what the case actually is. The specifics don't matter, just the way he reacts to it. I love that. Because you're absolutely right, the specifics don't matter and there's something so lovely about the idea that he doesn't think about it poetically or dramatically the way he normally would, turning it into a story in his head, because this time the reality is hitting him harder than normal and he just can't.

I love that.
