HEY RYUUKEN. I DRABBLED.

Lousiana nights had a reputation for being just as sticky as they were hot. In the winter and early spring, it wasn't much of a problem, but now that it was nearing summer once again, the weather had once again taken a turn for the disgusting.

It was enough to rouse Ryuuken from his half-sleep.

He didn't know why he was mildly surprised to find Ying still next to him; perhaps it was her habit of sneaking out of the hospital. But no, there she was, forehead pressed against his cheek and her hair sticking to his chin and neck. Tonight, her snores not only gave away her exhaustion, but also her homeland. After all, no normal human would be able to thrive in a swamp like this unless they spent a great deal of their lives in a similar climate.

Ryuuken envied that about her. The coming months would be difficult for him, but for her? Walk in the park. She could sleep without a care about the climate, and he would continue to unbutton his shirt in hopes that he'd get some kind of airflow on his skin.

A quiet mumble from from Ying, and before he could stop her, Ryuuken found her face had shifted from his shoulder to his chest, with her hair still stuck to his face and neck.

He wanted to shake her awake at that moment; her body heat was nearly killing him, especially considering his state before she shifted. But, try as he might, he couldn't bring himself to do it. Maybe it was the way she sighed when she moved. Maybe it was the light brush of her lips against his skin. And maybe, just maybe, it was the way she whispered his name when one arm found its way around his waist.

The heat was unbearable, but Ryuuken suddenly didn't care. With a sigh, he leaned forward and gently kissed Ying's forehead, and then stretched back out on her hospital bed, one hand reaching back to support his head, and the other slowly stroking Ying's hair.

Well. It wasn't like he hadn't gone longer without sleep.
