didn't do much fri/sat

left sat. morning for taipei. had a japanese lunch box and fell asleep afterwards. Dr. chen's family is so welcoming and pleasant. so this past weekend was very low-key. left friday night for my grandma's house. outside the hsinchu train station there was this random high school concert event...don't know if it was a competition or a charity thing...anyways the group was performing zombie by the cranberries and i was amused, especially with the two girls head banging on the ( Read more... )

so on saturday morning we took the train to tainan....about a 3 hour ride

then waited an hour for a bus that took half an hour to get to anping where there's a fort and of course a bunch of food

had an oyster omelet (wish there were more oysters), coffin bread (deep fried bread filled with an asian version of pot pie filling- got to be a bit bunch ( Read more... )

rice noodles--a Hsinchu specialty since the city's windiness helps dry the noodles and make them taste better...supposedly

didn't sleep well. have to catch the shuttle everyday at 7:25, get to work by 8 and catch the shuttle again at 5. breakfast was sticky rice filled with pork floss, an egg, pickled vegetables, and fried dough---don't know how else to describe it. the hr person forgot to tell my department that i was arriving so they were slow to process my paperwork ( Read more... )

went to dauphin island in AL with my family and three other asian families over memorial break

not much there, very undeveloped, uncommercialized...but it was nice----ate seafood and went to the beach and the audubon bird sanctuary which leads you to a nice stretch of beach

the police dept. is partially housed in trailers

wanted to bike around

Columbus, GA:

drive-thru liquor store...
burger king housed in a house with an ambulance in the parking lot when we drove by...
and i think houlihan's is the nicest restaurant here and next to the nicest hotel here--the Marriott, which has very comfy beds.
and having some farewell dinner/dance for troops i believe.
