I think the problem, or a large part of it, is that people don't believe or feel as intensely as one might hope. It seems like you and I and folks like us tend to take away more clear-cut lessons from the things we observe than most people do, and the inconsistency between ours and more common viewpoints is confusing and frustrating to us, and frightening to others. It's hard to say who's more at fault, if anyone, but I think it's pretty obvious that we're the ones who are in the minority, and thus it's far more likely that we'll be able to compensate for the inconsistency in our differing perceptions, rather than the rest of the world. It's not a comfort, exactly, but hopefully identifying the problem will eventually lead to a solution.

Of course, I may also be off my rocker entirely, but hey, we've known that for a good long time.
