The fixed economy

Aug 02, 2015 23:06

One of the mistakes that Leftists make incredibly often in their thought processes is the assumption of a static economy. You see it in virtually every narrative and proposal. As examples, raising the minimum wage. Sure, in a fixed economy, that has no downside! No stores will close, no employers will cut hours, or replace workers with kiosks, ( Read more... )

“Now, the left makes this error too, I would be hard pressed to find an error the left does not make, but that's not the topic of interest here…”

That one sentence was worth the price of admission.

I disagree. Guapo took away jobs from high school and college kids who were doing landscaping because it was easy, made them money, got them outside, and kept them in shape.

The problem with most illegal aliens isn't that they're Guapo, it's that they're criminals, they're living on welfare, they getting free medical treatment, and they're commiting crimes. Like 25 percent of ALL crime and sucking up over 25 percent of ALL welfare, even though they're only 5 percent of the population.

Now, I'm sure not ALL illegal aliens are criminals, just 90 to 95 percent of them are. Though here in California, it's probably closer to 99.

Actually, I disagree. ALL illegal immigrants are criminals. Not that they kill, rape, or deal drugs, but they have ALREADY violated US law by virtue of being here. Moving on from that, they are virtually certain to commit other crimes in order to live in a location they are not legally permitted to be ( ... )

I used to follow the NumbersUSA sites back in the day and found useful information there. The 25% illegal immigration incarceration number is tricky because, even though it's 25%, their anchor babies overwhelmingly grow into crime. That's why I don't buy the idea that illegal immigrants would make a great impact under a right wing government. When Reagan gave amnesty to six million illegals, their children joined gangs. Now there are more places white people had to flee from in order to find prosperity than they might have.

I agree with the reduce capital gains taxes idea for keeping businesses in the country, not importing an infinite supply of cheap, uneducated labor. They aren't good culturally either, as MS13 is creating strongholds in many major cities, and many illegals aren't integrating well.

Specifically, by doing the job cheaper, Guapo made more money available for investment, creating wealth which enabled the creation of new jobs elsewhere. This is the direct flip side of the way in which effective minimum wages destroy wealth.

I don't know if you were catching this

http://baron-waste.livejournal.com/2283079.html

but I just let it go, because the man literally does not know what he is talking about and I suspect that much of his leftist orientation is based on just such ignorance of the subject.  Also on somewhat dodgy shifts in reasoning, but the people I've seen who've roasted him on that aren't exactly paragons themselves, so I'm doubly disinclined, y' know?

He means well.  But then, so did Vlad the Impaler.

Honestly, I am not so sure that the intentions are "good". What we need here is a definition of that term.

As political campaigns are (mostly) non-violent versions of military campaigns, with elections instead of decisive battles, a politician encouraging illegal immigration for future votes is the equivalent of a participant in a civil war who invites foreign intervention. In this case, barbarian intervention.

That does remind me of the political cartoon I saw showing Obama saying that he supports effectively unlimited amnesty for illegals “because they'll do what ordinary Americans won't.”

“… Like what?” a reporter asks.

“Vote Democrat!”

Sometimes, you just have to say, "alright, let's try it and see what happens". And then whatever the outcome, you can use it as a reference point in future discussions.

The problem with that is that, depending on what you try and in what situation, the outcome might be irreversibly catastrophic. Or reversibly catastrophic only at horrendous costs.

"I think we can jump off the 100' cliff onto jagged rocks and live."

"That's absurd!"

"Well, why not try it and see what happens? Afterward, we can use it as a reference point in future discussions ..."
