When people are drawing comparisons of healthcare systems, or social safety nets, or other governmental improvement of lifestyle programs, they almost always restrict the comparisons to other countries of similar levels of wealth. Yeah, but who's "they"? Someone has to set and enforce the policies. And socialism is very economically profitable for the political class that sets and enforces the policies. Besides that, if they admit they were wrong, they look bad, they feel bad, and they lose power. They don't have much incentive to change.

All the socialists care about is power. It kinda evokes 1984 when O'Brien tells Winston that the Party only wants power.
