I'm a transfer, so I suppose that the guidelines might be a little different, but I've never done any community service and I still got accepted. As for the extracurriculars, I think that as long as you're really active in one thing, you don't need to have like fifty clubs under your belt.

Also, it's probably better to get As in honor courses, although if you manage to get credit on an AP test it makes your life a LOT easier.

I think the required amount of service hours would be sufficient. Fordham is a great school, but we're not exactly the Overachiever Headquarters, ifyaknowhwatImean.

As for the Honors vs. AP courses...that's a tough one. I think it depends more on what score you get on the AP exams. I didn't really have any APs my senior year and I still got into FU (with a small scholarship), so I would go for whatever you feel most confident doing.

Service hours in New York, to the best of my knowledge, depend highly on what school you go to. My high school, like yours, required a certain amount of hours in order to graduate, but as far as I know most don't ( ... )

Fordham admissions counselors have told me that they would rather see a student focus on one extracurricular activity that they love instead of join a different club every year, just to beef up their applications ( ... )

I'm also an out of state student, from Virginia. We were required to do 250 hours to graduate, but I ended up doing nearly 1000 my junior and senior years. I was also heavily involved in 2 extra curriculars. My scores and grades weren't perfect, but they were above what was needed for Fordham. However, my community service was what stuck out and I ended up with a full scholarship.

At Fordham, we have an excellent community service program. Also, you can do service learning. Some professors give the option of performing a number of community service hours instead of writing a number of papers. It works out well and involves you in the community around Fordham.
