[series]: X-Men (New X-Men, primarily, Marvel 616 Universe)
[character]: Julian Keller
[character history / background]: Here.

[character abilities]: Here.

[character personality]: Julian hasn't always been good at making a good first impression. Sure, he might be nice, a little charming, but within the same breath, he might insult someone or seem incredibly insensitive about someone's problems. He's caustic, a little arrogant, demanding, and a little full of himself. At least, this is the Julian that dominated most of his time in Xavier's Academy. He didn't care about alienating others, as long as he served as a good leader for his team. In a way, he was perfect to be working under Emma Frost. Full of pride, not the nicest person ever, but very good at what he did. He was good at tactics, good at keeping his head together, even if anyone outside of the team would have been incapable of understanding why they worked so well together. Many of these things have become subdued, but he does have an arrogant and caustic side still, and is sometimes difficult to deal with.

Of course, there was a reason for that, and perhaps that's where this should have begun. Julian is a good friend, loyal, determined, and willing to do anything and everything for them. He's not only a good leader, but capable of inspiring them as best as he can. He wants the best for them, and he's gone through a period of having to lose most of them due to the attacks on the mutants in the school. As a result, Julian has changed, becoming less about his pride, and becoming more about helping others, even understanding that this is necessary. It helps that he's experienced some damage to his pride, being forced into a position of not being a leader but still having to be there for his friends. It bothered him and frustrated him at first, but he eventually came into realizing that he could still do his best-and even respecting the new leader, a former rival of his, Nori.

Loyalty, leadership, and even caustic and arrogant behavior aside, Julian has been through a lot in his short life. He's one of the younger mutants, and given the decimation of mutants throughout the world, he's dealt with having to understand the pressure of being one of the few remaining mutants in the world. All the same, he's tried to carry the burden to the best of his ability. Rarely daunted, Julian is someone who will fight until he can't fight anymore. He's someone who has always had a fair amount of pride in his abilities and what he's capable of doing, and as a result, it's a good thing he always had guidance in someone like Emma Frost, who knew how to control him but also give him the boasting that he so desired. It's important to note that his one wish used to be that he desired fortune and glory, but realized that this was a bad thing when it eventually led to negative results (and things became difficult for his friends). His friends eventually circumvented his need for this, and he realized there was a better approach to things-and what was truly important. Top this off with him later showing disgust at the idea of killing someone, and it shows that Julian, despite having characteristics that could make him less than a wonderful person to be around, is genuinely a good person.

Above all, however, Julian is someone who needs a purpose. Helping his friends, doing what they could-or simply being a hero! Finding himself in a position where he can't do anything like this frustrates him immensely. Julian has even sought out an evil man in order to give himself a purpose when everything fell apart, but it was obvious that he wanted to prove himself as a hero, to be able to do his best. And Julian himself is hardly evil.

Overall, Julian can be summarized as a sometimes arrogant, sometimes caustic, but very determined young hero who is a good leader and puts his friends first. He's been through a lot, but he's not about to give up-even if the going has been tough more than anything.
