I watched Sherlock recently and loved it. Why is the fandom pissing you off? I'm a member of sherlockbbc and its members seem to be fine.

Have heard mixed things about Pillars of the Earth but I really like Hayley Atwell (she plays Aliena) so I'll watch it eventually.

I'm not saying that fans are doing something wrong, it just pisses om off how crazy people are about it, in some cases that's a part of what draws me toward a show (like it happend with Doctor Who, Supernatural or Queer as Folk), in the other ones in quite the opposite direction. I can't help it, sorry ;)

Well, I do watch it only for Matt Bomer, so you know :P But I definitely wouldn't like the change in the dymanics between the characters if someone was killed (Kate's anothers story, she kinda never was there anyway...).
