I'm new to this community (and to lj in general), so please let me know if I do anything wrong!

Ok, I'll just go for it. ;) I have a rather techincal question about the scene "Einladung zum Ball". As you all know, von Krolock first appears on the roof and then suddenly appears in the bathroom. I've been wondering how he makes it down ( Read more... )

I've always been under the impression that it's a double on the roof... :)

Yup. The Krolock in the roof ISN'T Krolock =P They have an actor that looks like the one playing Krolock on the roof. This ilusion is helped by the heavy makeup Krolock uses. So basicly the actor in the rooftop is just moving his lips and doing gestures as the real Krolock is already downstairs singing. If you look, the only spotlight if over Sarah so when the real Krolock comes he covers himself with the black cape. When the time is right he opens the cape and since the inside is purple or red, it looks like he just appeared there ;)

Pretty cool isn't it? =P

Oh right, thanks! I did think of a double, but I just thought it wouldn't really work. Well, apparently it works pretty well ;) You're right, it's quite cool.

Yeah, it's a double - the funny thing is, they seem to insist on choosing doubles that look nothing like the Krolock they actually have. :P Of course if you're not sitting too close (or are watching fuzzy bootlegs) it works because you don't see that clearly.

Also, in some productions the double seems to be one of the Roten Stieel dancers, since they're already in the right costume :)

Yeah, I guess you'd notice it if you were sitting close enough. Oberhausen has found an interesting solution to the problem, though: the stage is so small (and, consequently, the ceiling so low), I had the strong impressiont he double actually had to duck so he'd fit into the space up there. Nice way to hide your face ;)

The Krolock on the roof is another actor who up there just moves his lips.
The "real" Krolock waits downstairs and sings till he enters the bathroom
