Question - why are you vegan?

well, i first became vegetarian a long time ago because i really never liked meat. i was vegan in the summers during high school, but vegetarian during the school year because it was easier and at that point, i wasn't very dedicated. i met my boyfriend, and he was super strict, so by default, i just became vegan, plus i was out of school and bought my own groceries, so it was easier. to be honest, i mostly just EAT vegan, but i'm not nearly as strict as most people, so i don't feel comfortable really calling myself a vegan. i mostly do it for ethical/moral reasons. it's better for the environment, your body, nothing was harmed to make your dinner, etc. there were many reasons why i eat mostly vegan foods. every once and a while, i'll mess up and forget to check the ingredients of something i'd assume would be vegan or slip and eat candy at work since nothing there is vegan. health wise, i still eat fatty foods, but if i were eating dairy and meat like i eat things now, i'd be a lot unhealthier ( ... )

More and more, I eat vegan.. I've been vegetarian all my life.
But, I wanted to know because you speak of it everytime you write here..to begin with what you eat (and wear) is an incredible way of getting in touch with the process of food, exploitation and suffering in animals (and humans in terms of how it's manufactured), but that's just it...it's just a beginning, isn't it? I feel good to eat well, to eat ethically, but it makes so little difference to the wellbeing of animals in the majority.
I suppose my question is more this - what are your next steps, if you're serious about this? We're intelligent enough to live beyond labels, I would hope, and build something bigger than just being defined by what we eat..I would hope.
I think this is a critique of myself more than anything too, I meet so many people are define themselves this way and I ask, and what now? I never receive an answer that satisfies me.

yeah, i noticed that i have been mentioning it a lot in here. i think because outside of work, i really haven't been up to much due to pennsylvania's winter. plus, i've been trying to become more strict as a new year's resolution. this november, i really screwed up and started eating just vegetarian and i felt really horrible. it's weird how just one month of cheese sticks and crap foods can make you feel. i think the main reason was my boyfriend and i were getting lazy and just eating the same thing over and over again. we've been really trying to cook more and vary what we eat (tonight we're making hummus and i'm so stoked ( ... )
