Sorry for the lack of updates lately, but to be honest, there's little that's been terribly exciting or note-worthy as of late. That is, until this last Saturday.

For those of you who do not enjoy the aspect of shopping, especially during the hoidays, I think you will be able to relate to this little story.

Cut for length...

Yikes.

I almost miss the days when I worked retail, if for no other reason than I enjoyed giving people a better shopping experience by not being a complete asshat. Seriously, the best way to sell something is to just put what people want in front of them and stand back. They'll make up their mind to take it or not; you guys would have been my dream customer. Already know what you want; can get you in and out in less than ten minutes; yep, that's what I mean by "dream customer." Why she tried to upsell you is beyond me.

Online shopping FTW.

Your experience of working retail was remarkably different from mine. Every third word in our training lectures, videos, and literature was "upsell." If we weren't upselling sufficiently, there would be hell to pay. (This is why I was much better suited to strong-back-weak-mind work in Receiving.) Why on earth would you want the customer to leave in a timely fashion? We'd have chained them to the tables if it weren't illegal.

I'm kidding... sort of. Not really.

I have no idea where Staci got it. She was the master of just holding out whatever the customer was considering and maybe through some kind of psychic manipulation and by saying almost nothing, got them to but whatever it was... and the extra cloth... and the cleaner... and the box... and...

She was the number one seller in our store. By observing her technique, I was able to become number two.

I'm sure some strange reverse psychology was at work.
