The Corporatization of Academia

I'll be the first to admit that politics bore the shit out of me, but when it does manage to evoke a spike train in my otherwise dormant cerebral cortex, the results are not very pleasant. And when confronted with views that differ from my own, I tend to oscillate between haughty contempt and homicidal rage. Conservative ideas are reflexively ( Read more... )

I haven't finished reading this yet, but I feel strangely compelled to tell you how much I love this sentence:

Anyway, this was just a prelude to a politically-charged diatribe that will probably degenerate into an odd assortment of desultory thoughts and strange attempts at humor.

Good stuff ;)

Yeah I know, this post is pretty long-winded, even for me.

Incidentally, the sentence you just quoted is probably the only accurate one in this entire post.

For the most part, I agree with you...

It's just the matter of whether or not all governments are like this that I'm on the fence about.

btw -- where did you get that excerpt? Can it be found online?

I found it online a long time ago. I think I downloaded it from some website but I forgot which one. Anyway, I could send you the pdf file if you want to look it over.

Of course, I only cut and pasted the parts that support my paranoid views =)

If you could email it to me, that would be awesome (allie_cat_chat@yahoo.com -- I know, it's a lame addy name!).

I'm not sure exactly what they mean by genuine defections? It's kind of ambiguous... That's why I was asking about the source. The anwer's probably in the context somewhere? Or maybe I'm just braindead today ;)

I liked the rant about academia, though. It's demonstrated here as well, by corporate conglomerate donations who get to have all of the buildings named after them... Sick, really.

Reminds me of the philosopher, i think it was Lyotard, that said, as to an example of what you've stated, the first Iraqi war was a figment of the media, and, really, couldn't be proven to have happened. Lyotard had some harsh words for the ominous motives behind such a facade (be it real or imagined).

I'm not sure what relevance that has to anything but reading your post reminded me of it...

I'm not sure Australia is much better. From what I hear its moving towards a 'more conservative' bent too...I wish I could take leave of this entire planet, as it is most obviously insane.

Well, if I had the option of leaving this planet I would take it. Unfortunately, there are no other hospitable worlds for me to live in, at least none that I know of.
