To be perfectly honest, I didn't even watch the trial. It just seems to me that he would have been acquitted whether he was guilty or not.

Oh, I didn't watch it either, I just got the sense from things I heard about it that someone was trying to take advantage of the rich freaky guy.

It just seems to me that he would have been acquitted whether he was guilty or not.
Yeah, unfortunately that's a fair assumption to make nowadays...

That's the nature of capitalism as we know it Cath...it's okay to do anything as long as you're rich.
  • Write legislation to maximize the profitability of your business, even at the expense of competition and consumer protections
  • Become President of the United States and proceed in said position as a genocidal maniac
  • Convince an entire subculture through the manipulation of media and marketing that a comical excuse for corporate whoring like NASCAR™ is not just a bunch of advertisements driving around in a circle, but an actual way of life that involves hats, shirts, bumper stickers, state issue license plates, and anything else you can think of that can display a colorful italicized number
  • Murder your wife and her "friend" and then hire a "crack" legal team to convince the world that only a racist would believe DNA evidence
  • Exist as a complete freak with no grip on reality, sleep with children and transparently live life as a pederast while maintaining a solid and loyal fanbase worldwide

I think you may have missed the point of today's lesson, which has nothing in particular to do with fucking little boys. I think what we all should have absorbed today is that the fourth estate needs to talk about _something_ instead of the Downing street memo or the wildly inconsistent narratives used to rationalize our current military commitments. There are usually two or three public interest stories being groomed at a time by the major network broadcasters to fill up the space evacuated by their consent to not talk about issues of any critical importance ( ... )

And you, good sir, may have missed the point of my post, which is shockingly easy to do since they often do not have a point, except to be satirical. The points you have so poignantly addressed are quite valid, and this is precisely why I have boycotted any form of news media which has a tendency to deluge the public with a barrage of useless trivia and trifling anecdotes in order to divert their attention away from issues of critical importance. The only reason that I am, in fact, aware of the media circus surrounding this facially-challenged, androgenous tribute to the Edward Scissorhands look-a-like contest in the vague form of a botched ventriloquist doll is because it happens to be plastered all over my web browser. The same is true of Terri Schiavo or Jennifer Wilbanks or whatever petty minutia the media happens to dredge up that week. I was conspicuously silent throughout that entire charade, even as entire web communities sprung from the fountain of ignorance and small-mindedness to perpetuate the drama ( ... )

"torpedoed my post with penetrating logic and exposed my own innate weakness for petty gossip,"

No no. No torpedoes. I wasn't even being critical. When I began this response by putting forth that you had missed the point of "the lesson" I was merely extending the analogy you began the thread with. I was also looking for somewhere to include the expressions "ambiguous ethnicity" and "liliputian SS."

I feel as though I've been discourteous now. Terribly sorry.

No offense taken. I have always sneered at the inordinate amount of press coverage devoted to frivolous issues such as this, so in posting about it here I was actually contradicting myself. I'm glad you called me on it.

yeah. what's with that? don't be an idiot and actually take the time to raise your children and they'll be safe enough from kiddy molestors.
