Closet Commie Chemist Finally Crumbles Under Corporate Cookie

Nov 22, 2005 18:53

This morning I was delighted to see that Coffee Culture now offers a variety of delicious chocolate chip cookies. Then I noticed the price - $1.50 for an amoeba-sized cookie and $2.25 for a larger version of the same thing. My initial twitching reaction eventually progressed to full-blown convulsions as I realized that my moral conviction against ( Read more... )

That's a very tiny cookie as cookies go.

You can get a full packet of those for about 80p. Like, a 30cm long packet.

Can't beat chocolate gingernuts though. Plain chocolate gingernuts. They're so delicious, you'll never eat anything else again and soon die from vitamin deficiency. But you'll die happy. Chocolate gingernuts are the most godlike biscuits ever created.

Oh ... like those rats that would rather self-administer cocaine by pressing a lever arm than feed themselves, so they eventually die of starvation.

$2.25? It's a bargain! nexrad November 23 2005, 03:52:06 UTC
No, you got a good deal on that: it's no cookie at all. You consummed one of Dick Cheney's skin flakes.

You know, there is a body of literature pertaining to the assumption that market competition under capitalism serves to improve the quality of goods and services, and it's refutation, that it actually diminishes that quality. The latter is usually preoccupied with trends that emerge under capital's control of how materials and energies are dedicated in the designed environment. Internal features of capitalist systems like planned obsolesence, or technological path dependency ( ... )

If you took a bite of your cookie and cookies from ten other coffe chains, do you think one wold stand out as superior?

I've tasted them all, and they all suffer from staleness and lack of flavor. I could have had a better cookie if I'd simply made it myself for about one tenth of the cost.

Isn't that the shits? I sometimes buy things simply because they cost more because I have been led to believe that they are somehow better. You know what? They rarely are.

Sorry you had to shell out for a disappointing cookie, but I understand the impulsiveness behind things like choclate addiction.

Cheers!

Yeah, you're only paying for the convenience of having a cookie right there at the coffee shop rather than the quality of the cookie itself.

Isn't this a bit like bitching about the price of coke at the cinema?

If I could get past the price of admission at the cinema, I might be able to answer that question.
