Fred Phelps is coming to SUNY to protest... this means that Fred Phelps will be protesting across the street from my home.... given my proximity to the SUNY campus. I'm debating on whether to shelter my kids or expose them to the bigoted side of America lest they not realize we are as hated minority.

I haven't actually checked on why he is protesting poor SUNY. I've received several alerts and I'm a bit upset that those lunatics will be so close to my house, but every one has a right to free speech. As long as he stays on public property and does not actually assault anyone, I do not see where I have much right to complain. I'm going to get training as a counter protester. want to come?

Ok, I had never read his website... fucking... wow, he is crazy. Why are they protesting the funeral of various marines.... is he just evil in a general way or is there a point that I am missing?

From my understanding, he thinks that all bad things that happen to the US (and indeed, the world) are a result of God's vengenece on the "fags". He's completely anti-homosexual in every way, shape, and form. When Tim McLean was randomly beheaded on a bus as a result of a random crime in Portage La Prairie, Canada, the Phelps clan somehow saw a reason to protest and connect it to God's wrath on gays, although homosexuality had nothing to do with what happened....he doesn't make sense in any ghost of a shadow of a way. I actually hate him, and his followers, and I really hope they all choke on their own hate-spilling tongues.

Unfortunately, I can't counter-protest that day, as I'll be working my new job, and I already have had to arrange for time off due to Sasha's wedding...otherwise I'd love to.

You should make a sign with a Photoshopped picture of him making out with a guy, and under it, writing: "See? It's not so bad!"

They are coming to protest on March 6. The local GLBT center is co-hosting a training on effective counter protest on March 1 and another on March 2.
