So I bugged them a bit more. Now instead of "you aren't getting anything" it is "you get 5 free transcripts" It is better than nothing

I think they meant that SJSU was unlikely to have rejected your application on the sole basis of a late transcript. Clearly, they're not aware of how bureaucracy actually works.

I think that statement is them trying to say "That sucks that SJSU didn't consider you just because a transcript wasn't sent in, since the not sending in of a transcript wasn't your fault."
