Knowing grandparents

My knowledge of grandparents is sadly lacking. I wish I could speak more to them and find out more about the past. So many things cannot be discussed because I simply cannot say or understand enough. I'm quite interested in their World War II experiences too. For a long time I didn't know anything about it and the question never crossed my mind. ( Read more... )

Yeah? Maybe not everyone. But then again, they stood by, didn't they? Furthermore, the Japanese government has continually refused to admit that the Rape of Nanking ever happened, and there were even reports of government people pushing to get it removed from Japanese history textbooks.

And then Iris Chang died "mysteriously." Apparently she was "depressed" and decided to commit suicide. Except she'd been writing tons of books about such depressing subjects and nothing came up before this...

But that's my point. Not everyone was evil. And standing by something isn't the same as supporting it. Its equating cowardice (at best) with being evil. Even so, we have stood by things too. Torture happened since the Iraq war. Should we hold ourselves personally responsible because we didn't rebel against Bush's government?

The government's actions are not always representative of the people. This falls into the same trap I just discussed. The Japanese government does something so obviously this means that everyone agrees with it.

What does Iris Chang have to relate to any of this? Are you implying assassination? Again I fail to see how that proves that everyone is evil.

I don't get why you are so antagonistic in your post. I think you missed the point I was trying to make. I was arguing not everyone is evil. You are arguing that not everyone was good. In essence you are counteraruging to something which I did not say. It just seems superficially related.
