I had a similar reaction to Waitress. I really liked it, but I had some issues.

Yeah - I think if I'd gone into it with a different mindset that might have helped some (I thought it was a bit more "romantic comedy" than it was), but I'm not sure.

I will say, OMG the PIES, the PIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEESSSSSS. So. So. Yummy-looking.

I kinda got the impression with Nathan Fillion's character; he was drawn to Keri Russell's character out of that need to save her. Some guys are like that. Sure they may have a devoted partner but hey here is this woman who he can rescue and with whom he can be the hero. Thankfully she sorted herself out. For many women in an abusive situation, it does take quite an act of faith to leave an abusive partner. Even if in rational-person land you would think they wouldn't dig being beaten down emotionally and physically -their spirit is often so broken they don't/can't see it from a healthy perspective.

But hey those pies were delicious looking.

Yeah, I think that was what they were trying to convey, but I don't know, there was just something not-quite-connecting for me. Although maybe it was just that I'm so unused to seeing Nathan Fillion play any character that's not confidently oozing charisma, heh. I *did* like how having the baby snapped her out of the bad cycle and caused her to take control, and the ending was sweet. The movie just felt a bit looong in the middle.

Yeah, the pies, OMG.
