I'm as suspicious of predictions that stand to confirm global warming that are made on a regional scale ("several midwestern states," here) as I am of criticisms of global warming that similarly point to such a teeny-tiny sample in an attempt to discredit it.

In my post, I pointed out that the oceans have a very good averaging effect, both in temperature and in volume (which indicates thermal expansion). If people won't pay attention to what the oceans are telling us, they certainly aren't going to pay any attention to what happens in "several midwestern states," especially not when there's snow in a couple of southeastern states that's more convenient to their playing ostrich!

On the other hand, if Cherkauer's predictions play out on such a tiny scale, that will have advanced our state of climatology significantly, and I'll be happy to buy him a beer in apology! :) Hell of a win for science that would be.
