Lately it has been the superiority contests of the ravens and the crows, the jays occasionally intervening with their own idea of justice and rank.
It amazes me that such comparatively small birds can be such adept and vicious fliers and not be of the kestrel family. My grandmother loved to tell me of my grandfather's misfortune with blue jays- he'd mow the lawn and they would come swooping down, screaming as if hell has loosed them, and he would dash inside and they would attack the screen for nearly an hour. Crazy! And according to her, he never touched their nests. So who knows what their argument was!
Your writing is lovely, as always- and much missed.
Peace!
