i've never seen, or even heard of, these films. i fail at life. :( actually, where i live there would be no place to rent them at all. hickville? oh, yes.
there does seem to be a lot of homoerotic subtext in period pieces, that's part of what makes them so fun to watch. XD
Yeah, the dialog is a little easier. Of course, what would really help is a heavy dose of hitting the books until I remember some of the non-present tenses.
Yeah, he was definitely the bad guy brother. And they did horrible things to his hair.
Revealing the depth of my drunken/sleep deprived state yesterday, I didn't realize until just now that the subtext title did double duty for subtitles as well as latent frottage.
Yeah, I watched both Elizabeth and Elizabeth: The Golden Age a few weeks ago, and both were really good. Plus, you've got Joseph Fiennes in the first film and Clive Owen in the second film to keep you company. Yum.
I can't rec smart movies. I watch too much pr0n, sorry. *wink*
This is the little knowledge I know about gay sex and the subtext to which you are referring. So first off there is the whole boys only school thing. Note such lyrics as The Rolling Stones Cocksucker Blues. The notion of boys wanking in the shower together and getting off in one another's beds is not fake. There have been research studies and it's true that these young men live a somewhat homosexual life. Even though they would never call themselves "gay" and when give the chance they have their fair share of "fanny". They grow up and get married and it's not like they ever stop looking or even acting in that way. Sorry a bit of a tangent here but there is also a think about French people having affairs and the feelings they have about it. Remind about that for another time

I've not really tapped the period genre yet, but I think I'm going to give it a chance.

Yes.
I’ll practice my French by watching action movies and thrillers, because they have simpler dialog
That makes sense. Was it, in fact, simpler? In the VHS days I remember putting a strip of masking tape on the bottom of the tv to block the subtitles.
I've seen Brotherhood of the Wolf. Was he the "bad guy" brother dude? There was one guy who reminded me A LOT of Adrien Brody.
You still haven't seen him as Darcy? ghfdahg;fagad;fhgdsfa
He does that leaving his mouth slightly open thing that's just...omg...cannot...fuck.

I hate that frottage shows up as a misspell on this thing. *frowns*

*googles* Oh, I know who Vincent Cassel is. He played the gay, cross-dressing French duke in Elizabeth!

Was it any good?
*Is looking for Irréversible, with its "controversial" full frontal.*

Tell me how Irreversible is, after you watch it?
