A couple of weeks ago I had to take the Old Testament and New Testament Bible Competency Exams during Orientation. I didn't realize I had to take them that weekend and had not reviewed or prepared for the exam. Was it more theologically oriented (i.e. specific doctrines and beliefs and the scriptures attached to them), or specifically knowledge of the bible?

It was a mixture of knowledge of scriptural content & also a handful of questions on each exam about the Bible but not about specific knowledge... there was a question that listed 4 sets of 3 pairs of OT husbands/wives and you had to identify which set of 3 pairs were correct. There was a question about the chronological order of a list of prophets - including major and minor prophets. In which book is the Feast of Trumpets described? Who was Moses' wife?

In the NT... Which Gospel overwhelming speaks the most about the Kingdom of Heaven? Which has the most "Greek" feel to it? In which letter did Paul talk about Church Leadership (but not book ____ or ____), etc.
