Its hard to decide for the Spike/Riley thing. Because Spike is in it for longer, and they have more of a contrasting love against Angel. Plus they interact more.
But Riley acts more like Jacob. They're more similar. Plus, Buffy actually loved Riley, just not as much as Angel. Where as for Spike, she never had that constant actual love. You know what I mean? Like, she never felt normal love for him.
Jacob is obviously Riley. Riley is sweet and really cares for Buffy, and then he turns into that monster right(I missed like two seasons because of school, so I only vaguely remember it *sadface*)?
Tough choice on Jacob. Here are the arguments for me: Spike = Love she shouldn't feel and would not have happened if things had not gone wrongly (meaning her supernatural death and resurrection that led to the depression-ennui that Spike-sex alleviated in s6). Also lots of UST anger and jealousy with her OTP Angel.
Riley= Human, safe, appropriate choice. What she "should" want. Loves her more than she loved him. His OTP was waiting in the wings.
Ultimately I voted Spike. Hey, he's got a canonical nod as Jake from Whedon & Assoc. thanks to that Buffy comics cover with Angel, Buff, and Spike in the "New Moon" pose, with Spike in the Jake position. ;-D
I love this comparison, and I can't wait to see the rest. I think I might die a little if you compare Jacob to Spike though, lol. He is a bigger character than Riley, but I'm a wolfgirl and I ship Buffy/Riley, so yeah. Call me weird, it's okay, lol.
