Invading.

Mycroft felt surprisingly uncomfortable in his current location. Of course, he felt his usual sense of entitlement and confidence with his actions and whereabouts but he was still a little uneasy as he stood, hands placed in his pockets in a deliberately nonchalant manner, eyeing the gryffindor common room. Mycroft was a prefect. He was allowed to ( Read more... )

Fortunately for everyone finding solace in the dorms, John did eventually come down. He had no reason to other than someone had mentioned that Hufflepuff prefect and he got an instant feeling of dread. There could, of course, be several reasons for Mycroft's presence in the Gryffindor common room. John hoped maybe it was one of them as he slipped down to cautiously survey the scene; however, someone mentioned that, yes, Mycroft was looking for him and his stomach sank.

"You know, I think this is considered abusing your power," John murmured, stepping up to Mycroft. "Maybe whatever you need to talk to me about can happen outside? Away from all these attentive listeners?"

Mycroft thought that the request reasonable. After all, the hufflepuff had only ventured into Watson's domain in order to locate him. Remaining in the area was entirely unnecessary, not to mention that Mycroft didn't particularly like it here either. He didn't appreciate the gryffindor's tone, however.

"I had no other way of locating you. It was either this or fruitlessly continuing to discuss your location with your inept housemates. Let's take a walk." He gestured for John to follow him and began to move, expecting him to do so.

"I thought I should check on how my capricious storm of a brother is doing."

He huffed at the accusation. Inept housemates? These Holmes brothers certainly thought they were something else. After he clambered out of the common room, John's eyebrows rose.

"You wanted to check on your brother. So you came to ask me. Seems a bit ... Counter productive, doesn't it?"

John stuck his hands in his pockets. He and Sherlock were, of course, on somewhat rocky terms at the moment and it certainly wasn't something he wanted to discuss with Mycroft of all people.

Trust John not to understand, though Mycroft did acknowledge that the situation between the Holmes brothers was a little unusual and occasionally difficult for others to grasp. It had been like this since Mycroft had remembered, though. Ever since Sherlock had mocked his older brother's toy tea set while Mycroft sneered at his sibling's choice of attire.

"Sherlock and I aren't always on the best of terms. It's far easier if you tell me exactly what he's been up to, rather than me having to decode his guarded equivocations and lies. I'm trying to protect him but he does make that frustratingly difficult sometimes. Could you do that for me?" Mycroft worded it as such but, really, it wasn't a question. It was more of an order than anything else.
