Typical of the Fire Nation [History] Born the first and only son of Firelord Ozai and his wife Ursa, Zuko was the Crown Prince of the Fire Nation for thirteen years, growing up alongside his sister Azula, younger by two years. As Crown Prince, Zuko was the first in line to succeed his father as Firelord and was given the education and training to carry out this destiny, though it is shown that, in fact, Azula-referred to as a prodigy-was usually more adept at both lessons and Firebending training, which lead her father to favor her and disdain Zuko. However, Zuko worked hard, with determination, and embraced his destiny to become Firelord. Though his father was distant, strict and unforgiving, Zuko was close to his mother, a gentle but strong woman. Ursa was, however, banished for ‘treason’ by her husband shortly after he became Fire Lord under questionable circumstances, and it is implied that she helped him come to the throne-despite his being only the second son of the late Firelord Azulon-in order to save Zuko’s life because Azulon had threatened to kill Ozai’s firstborn. Though it is not specified in canon, when this happens, Zuko appears to be around ten or so years old. Before she leaves, Ursa bids a quick farewell to her son, telling him, “Everything I've done, I've done to protect you. Remember this Zuko. No matter how things may seem to change, never forget who you are.” Zuko takes these words to heart.
When he is thirteen, Zuko asks to be let to sit in on a war meeting between the Firelord and his generals, and though his uncle, Iroh, warns him not to speak, when Zuko hears of a plan to sacrifice Fire Nation soldiers needlessly, he speaks out against it. Ozai, who sees this as a great disrespect to himself because Zuko spoke out of turn, challenges Zuko to a Firebending duel, an Agni Kai. Needless to say, the thirteen-year-old Zuko didn’t stand a chance against a full-grown and trained Firebender, and after burning the left half of Zuko’s face and leaving a large scar, Ozai banishes his only son, stripping him of his birthright and declaring that he can only return once he captures the Avatar-who had disappeared from the world for 100 years.
Zuko’s uncle, Iroh, accompanies the banished prince in his impossible-seeming quest, and after two years, Zuko finally finds out that the Avatar has returned and spends most of the series pursuing Aang and his friends in order to capture him and restore his honor. However, throughout the course of the series, Zuko realizes that the Avatar is the final hope for the world-which has been in a war for 100 years due to the Fire Nation’s attack on the Airbenders-and eventually joins Aang to instead stop his own father, Ozai, who attempts to take over the world under the Fire Nation insignia and become ‘Phoenix King’. After several months of living with his uncle in the Earth Kingdom and learning of the wrongs that the Fire Nation has committed from the eyes of the people who were wronged rather than propagandistic Fire Nation sources, Zuko comes to understand how terrible the war really is and, on the day of an eclipse which nullified all Firebending power, he tells his father that he is going to join the Avatar and stop the war.
Though at first Aang and his friends are suspicious of him, since Zuko had spent a good portion of his time chasing them, he proves himself by helping each of them out in a specific way, and he soon becomes an accepted part of their group-and they become close friends of his. In the final battle against the Fire Nation, Zuko takes on his sister Azula, who had just been pronounced Firelord, but he is injured helping Katara. After Katara defeats Azula, she uses her Waterbending to heal him, and after the battle, Zuko is crowned Firelord and declares the war over.
[Personality] Due to his difficult past and problematic relationship with his father, Zuko has suffered much and used to be a very angry and bitter person. Since joining the Avatar and becoming Firelord, however, Zuko has learned from his mistakes and has been trying to redeem himself by being more understanding and leading the Fire Nation in repairing the damage caused by the great war. Though still impatient, rash, and quick to anger, Zuko is trying not to let himself be driven by rage and is doing his best to reign in his negative sentiments in order to be a level-headed and capable leader for his nation. Not one to hide his emotions, Zuko’s feelings are usually clearly seen in his expression and he tends to act upon them.
Zuko has learned that he controls his own destiny and the means to earn and keep his honor, which is very important to him. Also, Zuko is immensely protective of those he loves and values human life, refusing to see his soldiers as expendable and willing to risk his life for those he cares about. Though often sarcastic and not hesitant to offer a caustic remark in anger, Zuko also shows a more relaxed and humorous side when with his friends and people he feels comfortable around, such as his girlfriend Mai and his uncle.
[Specialties/Abilities] Zuko is highly skilled in his dual Dao blades, which he carries on his back, and is also a powerful Firebender-which means he can create and control the element of fire using a specific martial art called Bending. In canon, he can produce anything between a small flame balanced in the palm of his hand and huge blasts of fire. He can do something as simple as heating up a drink or as complicated as creating swords or whips out of his fire. In addition, Zuko has the ability to redirect lightning, though he is unable to generate it on his own as an attack. Although his impulsive character often gets the best of him, Zuko has a sharp mind and acute instincts, especially when fighting, which also make him an apt strategist and tracker. He has shown great ability in stealth as well, providing him with skill in infiltration of enemy territory and allowing him to remain unnoticed by others if he so wishes.

[IC Question Samples]
☼If someone provoked or attacked you, what would you do?
If they attack me, they’re obviously looking for a fight. So that’s what they’ll get.
☼Someone comes to you to ask for the time. How would you respond?
How am I supposed to know the time? Can’t they just look at the sky and figure it out?
☼Someone is trying to rob you! What do you do?
I’m not gonna let them rob me. My stuff is my stuff.
☼Do you stand up against authority, go against all odds, and if you could, pierce the heavens with your fighting spirit? If not, would you if you could?
Pierce the-what? Why would I… oh, nevermind.
Uh… Does helping the Avatar take down my father count as standing up to authority?
☼Would you consider yourself a hero or a villain? Why? Neither is an option as well, but still tell why.
Oh. I’m not really… a hero. I’m not very good at it anyway. I mean, I’m trying to do what’s right now and I know I’ve messed up in the past but--
But I’m not a villain either! Even if I… Look, can’t we just say I’m trying to be good and leave it at that? These questions are ridiculous.
☼You're asked to take someone out for a date. Do you agree? If so, describe what you would do. If not, tell why.
You mean by Mai? Or someone else? Because if it’s Mai, I’d obviously take her out where she wants. If it’s someone else though… Uh, yeah. Have you seen Mai when she’s angry? Let’s not even go there.
☼Your country is in the middle of a war. What do you think of it? Do you support it or try to solve it yourself by going on an epic quest? Explain.
My country just got out of a hundred-year war I supported and then fought against and finally helped to end so let’s just move on, okay?
☼You are a given a mission. Would you complete it effectively or would you goof off and do something else? Expand a little on the response.
This sounds horribly familiar. I’d complete it. That would be the honorable thing to do-Unless it was a bad mission or something. Then I guess I wouldn’t. But if it was something I needed to do, then I’d do it seriously. There’s no point wasting time goofing off when I’ve got a job to do.
☼ You discover someone stalking you. Do you call the police or deal with it yourself?
There was this creep in the Earth Kingdom who stalked me. I dealt with him myself but then the police arrested him so, uh, does that count as both?
☼There is a cake in the rain. What do you do?
…walk past it? Who wants soggy rain-cake?
