the only thing that matters about george w bush is that he had a little sister named robion who died of leukemia when she was four. [g.w. was 8] bush's parents, instead of having a funeral for their little baby daughter, told the people at the hospital to "do whatever was normally done" with her body, and then they told little george "robin died ( Read more... )

Hayley,

I never said that it's not entirely possible that Bush may make abortion illegal. I know it's a possibility and it's fucking awful. I agree with everyone on this stance: "My body my choice". But I cannot help but think that if a law were to pass, people would not allow it. You, being such an outspoken political activist, one who feels empowered to make a difference, would be one of these people. would you not?

what do you mean by people would not allow it? just like they wouldn't allow the war in iraq? now, i support political activism as well as our government (not the administration) but there is only so much the people can say or do ( ... )

See Erica, i agree with you. I do think if Bush had his way, abortion would be banned. Do I think it will happen, no. However, many of the members in congress/the house, unlike George Bush, have political potential beyond this election term. I cannot fathom statement voting to ban abortion. Yes, it is obvious that majority of this country is conservative, however, it would be a very risky decision for a politician to make, and many (i would assume) would remain neutral about the issue. It could be the end all be all of their career. And that is a risk most sleazy politicians would not take.

but if you look at the political trends, a conservative country will support conservative politicians.
i dont think bush or any member in congress will try to push leglislation completely banning abortion. but look at the third trimester abortion ban. it's just one step closer. will the country black list a congressman who voted to ban a certain way or abortion? or a time limit? it's baby steps that will ultimitely take away our right to choose.
whether or not they can acheive that in 4 years...i dont know. but i suppose we will just have to wait and see.
