Time Compression: Companion

“CECIL!” She yelled as loud as she could, tears now flowing down her face. “Cecil!” All she could see was flat, dark earth for miles… There were a few mountains  but they were far, far away. “Cecil…” Her voice now a whisper. “Kain? Yang? Rydia…?”

Putting a hand few centimetres away from her mouth she realised she was alone… All alone… She fell to her knees and cried, the pain was burning her heart as things had happened to fast.

Getting up, she dusted herself off and tried to be brave. Putting one foot after another she began walking. She didn’t know how long she had done this but at one point she stopped. She heard something following her so she readied her bow. Placing the arrow’s tiny slit into the string she pulled back and became alert.
Something was moving, moving fast, aiming for her. In a second she saw what seemed to be a bluish tiger and she shot it. The arrow pierced its heart and fell right in front of her. She readied herself again as she had sense more of them coming.

One at a time the white mage shot them down, she was aiming carefully and firing quickly. But before she knew it she was surrounded by three of these… tiger things.

That’s when she heard a loud noise like nothing she had heard before. It sounded like an explosion, sort of like the dwarves’ tanks or the Red Wings’ Airships but not as strong. She saw a red blanket move across the ground and suddenly it rose to reveal… a person.

The raven haired man wasted no time. He shot his gun at the beasts like there was no tomorrow.

The blonde saw the man quickly point the gun at her and shoot, the bullet skimmed the side of her head and she heard a tiger behind her scream. Realising that this man was an ally she readied her bow and fired at them.

In time the battle was over and the blond looked at the man. “Thank you.”

“Welcome.”

“So um… are there others? Maybe we can find a way back to Baron together.”

“Baron?” He asked confused.

“You know… One of the four keepers of the crystals…”

“Crystals?” He frowned. “You mean materia?”

“No.” She frowned. “Where are you from?”

“Midgar.”

“Small town?”

“No.” He laughed. “Massive…”

“We… we’re not from the same world are we…?” The blond looked down; it was obvious she was being overwhelmed.

“Looks like were not, I haven’t seen anyone else yet… but if you survived then others would have too.”

“So I can see my friends again?” She smiled.

“Yes.”

He took her to a little cave he had found. Not many monsters could reach the cave besides birds, but most of those were pretty friendly.

“So what's your name?”

“Rosa, white mage of Baron.” She smiled at him, she was enjoying the company… enjoying not being alone.

“You?”

“Vincent Valentine.” He looked at her from across the little campfire he made and sighed. “What's your story?”

“Mine? Well…

Golbez raised his hand and sent a bolt straight at the summoner. Rydia was thrown against the wall and cursed out loud.

Palom and Porom moved in to do a twin magic strike but Golbez hit them before they could.

“Give me the crystals!” Golbez’ rage was rising and his magic was becoming more violent.

“Never!” The paladin roared and attacked his rival. Cecil quickly ducked dodging a strike and struck his rival a second time.

The enemy grabbed Cecil and was about to strike him but Rosa had quickly casted Confuse on the larger man.

Golbez dropped him and shook out of the confusion, but when he did he noticed the twins were staring at the walls, he gave it a quick glance and his eyes opened wide. Rosa and Cecil noticed it too, even Kain and Rydia saw what was happening.

The walls… no everything had become almost a jell-o like substance and were swaying in and out and the ground began to seep into the walls and everything was beyond belief.

A huge hole appeared in the middle of the room and dragged the entire room in, there was no doubt that even beyond the castle and perhaps the upper world was dragged in as well.

Rosa grabbed onto Cecil who was trying his best to hang onto Rydia.

“Ce-Cecil! I can’t hold on!” The green haired summoner yelled. “I'm sorry!”

“Rydia!” The paladin yelled as the green haired girl was dragged deeper. “I have to go get her!”

“Cecil wait!” Rosa yelled, but before she knew it she was thrown away from her lover and landed straight on the ground…

She opened her eyes and knew she was not home… The lights, liquid walls, everything was gone… and all that remained was an empty field of flat, dark earth.

“That’s it.” She sighed. “Woke up all alone and walked around for a while before you found me.”

Vincent had some questions but felt it was his turn. “My story was similar but different.”
