I know I have quite a few veggies on my f-list now, so I can hopefully make a food post without dis-interesting (word?) everyone out there.
Vegan adventures! Decided to make my own vegan sausage--because it's cheaper, healthier than the fake store stuff, why not, and I want to make gumbo tomorrow (what else do you do with okra?).
I don't have a proper "steamer" steamer (those bamboo constructions), but a steamer basket worked just fine. All I found for aluminum foil was "heavy duty", which is something like trying to fold and shape sheet metal...
Out of the steamer, ready to be frozen/refrigerated...
Lunch! Pan-fried the sausage and added some tater tots--I've been craving fries forever, and just so happened to find them in the freezer--unhealthy perfection! (And here I am surrounded by all these amazing vegetables...)
I didn't really have everything called for in the recipe and was combining several recipes (story of my cooking life), but they turned out pretty good, just a little too solid/dough-y, as I didn't have enough vital wheat gluten and subbed beans and soy flour for what I was lacking. I also could have kicked up the spice/flavor, but knew I'd be using these for gumbo and they'll get plenty through that.
Also made some baba ganouj, but there's just no way to appetizingly photograph the deliciousness of dips.
Picked blueberries until I overheated. Tempted to try making
this.
